Into the last four for the first time

The under 15s headed to Leamington CC for regional finals for the second year running hoping to go one better than last year and make it to the National Finals day. In our semi final we played Old Northamptonians who were the national U13 champions in 2014 ,a team we played then a lost to quite convincingly. We won the toss and elected to bat first everyone chipped in with valuable runs with the highlight being 53 not out for Jacques Banton. We were able to achieve a very respectable 136 which we felt was a competitive score on a wicket we hoped would give assistance to our bowlers. In reply Old Northamptonians found it difficult to score against tight bowling and wickets fell on a regular basis, we were in control of the game. The fielders backed up the bowlers well and all the catching chances were taken. The opponents closed their innings with a score of 87 for 9 ,Sam Johnstone took 4 for 23 and Jacques Banton 3 for 10 , James Moody took 2 good catches in the deep which were crucial.

We now moved to the final where we played Cambridge Granta again a side we had come across before , we lost to them at the same stage of the competition last year. Confidence was high and the team were determined to not fall at the final hurdle again. We won the toss and again opted to bat first. Harry Thompson and Jacques Banton got us off to a good start we then lost a couple of wickets and found ourselves at 35 for 2, Jacques Banton and Peter Hawk got their heads down to take us to 130 with Banton retiring for 53 and Hawk being dimissed for 39. Moody and Homer then added quick runs at the death to take us to a very impressive 161 off our 20 overs. The total was a formidable ask and again excellent fielding and bowling meant the opposition were never really in the hunt, Hayden Froggatt took 2 wickets in the first over and regular bowling changes brought regular wickets. In the end we were to strong bowling out Cambridge for 53 in 11 overs. The bowling all round was superb Jake Johnstone took 4 for 7 , the fielding again was excellent and Peter Hawk took 3 stumping's.

We well deserved our win and the umpires were full of praise for the boys , they commented that they played as a team , focused on what they were doing and the biggest complement was that there behaviour was exemplary.

I would like to congratulate the boys Jacques Banton, Peter.Hawk, Harry Thompson, Fergus Roll, James Moody, George Homer, Ben Humphries, Hayden Froggatt, Sam Johnstone, Jake Johnstone, Daniel Meredith and Ben Turner on two fine performances .
