Under 9's Open Account at The Bank

Held on the warmest day of the year so far, our hosts Astwood Bank welcomed teams from Barnt Green, Earlswood & Avoncroft in the first 4-way tournament for Under 9s this season.

With Barnt Green fielding a largely new side, their first opponents were Earlswood - despite a close match, batting second, Barnt Green overcame their opponents by 7 runs.

Our second opponents Avoncroft are relative newcomers but showed glimpses of future potential, along with good parental support in what proved to be Barnt Green's last victory of the day, running out winners by 35 runs.

With the sun now beating down, play moved to Pitch 1, with the Green playing our hosts for the morning's showdown. In what turned out to be a tense affair, Barnt Green posted 232 for 7, losing wickets trying to score big on the short boundaries. This proved to be too small a total to defend, despite some good bowling from the Green. With Astwood Bank blocking out the last over, they ran out worthy winners by 16 runs.

8th June sees the next round of the tournament, with a short trip to Avoncroft. We're looking for volunteers to assist with the U9s on this day, so if you're able to help please let us know.
