Shrewsbury restricted to 188. Newport shines with the bat.

Shrewsbury won the toss on a dry used pitch and elected to bat 1st.

The new ball was used well with a bit of swing and Barnt Green were rewarded with the wicket of Ed Foster who had his off stump knocked out of the ground. Steve Leach (26) and Patrick Butler (32) then dug in among some very disciplined bowling from Tom Burton and Luke Radford the latter bowling very fast and causing quite a lot of discomfort for both batsman with some very good short pitch bowling, Burton was then rewarded for his hard work with the wicket of Leach when he drove the ball straight in to the hands of Andy Sutton at a catching mid off. Butler was then spectacularly run out with a direct hit by Simon Mugava try to take a second run. The Green then just piled on the pressure in the middle overs bowling very good lines and lengths with Mugava and Tom Brown (4-29) bowling very well in tandem, Shrewsbury ended their 55 overs on 188-9.

The start of the batting innings was crucial as the pitch looked like it was going to spin. Nathan Newport (51) dug in and put the bad ball away well, with help from Burton (28) Pollock (25) and Radford (30) the score was moving along nicely but some good bowling from Elliot Green (4-49) made it a bit closer in the end as he got rid of all the in batsmen. The Green made it to the total 7 wickets down with 8 overs remaining.

A very good performance and 24 points at a tough place to get any kind if result against last year's champions.
